What You Lean On Makes a Difference
Do you know the story of Moses and the burning bush he went to see? In the heat of the desert, it is not uncommon for dry shrubbery to ignite spontaneously, but once burned out the fire would disappear. Moses, the shepherd, saw a bush continue to burn without burning up, so he went closer to investigate. God spoke to him from that burning bush.
God told him to take off his shoes as it was holy ground. Their conversation and encounter was on God’s turf.
God told Moses He had observed the needs of His people and He was going to rescue them and lead them out of Egypt into a far better place with milk and honey flowing, “And Moses, I’m going to go do it in your shoes.”
Furthermore, Moses was to throw down his staff, the one thing he leaned on and depended on all day long. It turned into a snake, so what Moses had trusted was potentially dangerous. His very livelihood!
But when God told him to pick up the snake by the tail, it became a staff again, something Moses could lean on and use - except, that from then on it was always referred to as God’s rod and staff, not as Moses’.
When I heard this challenging message on Monday night - my birthday - I thought, this is something to apply to my business! I need to be careful that I don’t lean on faulty confidence in myself or my skills and abilities. My business(es) are dedicated to the Lord, and I want to be sure to hold them as if they are His.
In fact, if the things i lean on are God’s, His power will be in them too! That’s good. It means I shall accomplish much more than on my own!
What is the “staff” you lean or depend on? A good salary or income, your skills or education? Is it your’s, or God’s?
If you turn whatever it is over to Him, God will bless your efforts with some surprising miracles.
