This is an e-book everyone who buys or sells, whether online or offline should buy and download -
especially those who want to do business with credit cards.
Very ordinary, law-abiding citizens, and well-meaning but uninformed small business people become
victims of ugly scams.
Too many of us are ignorant of the devious ways of thieves trick us out of our private, personal and
financial information.
They want our personal data so they can pretend to be us - so they can go on a spending spree
using our good name and accounts. These crooks know how many of us will choose to use our social
security number, our mother's maiden name, or those of our pets, as our passwords, and our birthdays
a PIN numbers. They cheerfully stoop to picking through garbage, if they have to, to find this
information, but the internet has got us giving it away! It's too easy!
Karyn gives readers a whole bunch of practical suggestions for keeping our personal information
more secure. I thought I was fairly prudent, but this e-Book opened my eyes to some things.
For instance, we should hide our numbers and cards at home, but not in places commonly thought
clever, like a freezer or under the mattress. Be more original. Thieves don't all care about our
heavy appliances. They want our numbers!
2. Don't carry your credit cards and ID cards in your purse and wallet all the time. Only take them
along when you KNOW you will need them.
3. File, do not throw out, your pay check stubs. These thieves are notorious for sorting through
garbage for clues to your personal identity.
Karyn describes several types of scams. There's Phishing and Phone scams where individuals call up
and pretend to be from your bank and need to confirm data.
Fooey! Your bank has your info securely and safe. Look how carefully they carry things in and out of
the vault in their building? Why would they risk your privacy on the phone? Let's think!
Another method they use is planting someone in a business or store whom they pay to steal the
personal data of clients or members. So it can happen even if we are super careful.
In recent times, they have come out with skimming devices they attach to ATM machines, which take
hidden photos, or copy keystrokes, and thus get PIN numbers.
I've heard from other sources that it is wise to cover your hand when keying in your pin number. Nor
should you toss your receipt. Take it home and file it.
Have you seen the digital camera phones? I confess I haven't, but ID thieves have already discovered
how they can stand in line at a checkout and pretend to be on the phone while taking pictures of
your credit card as the clerk processes your purchase.
Really? Yes, really!
I tell you, this e-book, although it could have used the touch of an editor, has valuable
information about protecting yourself at home, with how you file things, what to carry in your
wallet, what not to leave in your car, etc. Also, how to obtain your credit reports annually.
Then there are the chapters on recovery, along with some true case stories of ID theft. The chapter
on Nigerian scams analyses some typical letters or emails they send to prey on kind-hearted people.
I get multiples of them a day, so I have learned to recognize their subject lines, and the opening
sentences, and I delete them as fast as my nimble fingers can. But many new people keep coming
online and they are too naive to be dis-believing.
Karyn promises to come out with a second book, just about this one type of scam.
Head straight to IDTheftNightmare.com to buy this e-book. You'll read it
through in two or three hours, and may save your financial life! You can also go to their site to see how this couple
is collecting stories from others who have been scammed, and actually names recognized scammers.
They offer fresh ideas for keeping yourself safe, and as does the book, how to proceed through your
recovery once you've fallen, degrading though it feels at first.
