Proof-Reading and Editing Services
When you work very closely with your own written work, you find that your eyes do not really see
your errors, because your mind KNOWS what is correct in that spot, and fools you into thinking the
correct word or punctuation is there. This happens to most authors, so don't feel badly.
I've come to face the fact that it is good for someone to proof-read my work, someone with
fresh eyes. I can even convince myself that a certain spelling is correct, and another person will
point out my error. To self-publish we have to be humble enough to let others check our work for
accuracy BEFORE we publish it to the world.
I cannot guarantee that I can always be available for proof-reading or editing your e-Book.
Fortunately, I have several friends who have agreed to take on sub-contracts for this work. We
will charge $20/hour for proof-reading services. Editing might cost more, depending on how much
extra has to be done.
There is a difference between proof-reading and editing. A proof-reader just reads
your text and makes notes on corrections needed. Such as, "on page 33, the 4th paragraph down,
second sentence; there should be their." It is then up to you as the author, to find and
consider each error noted, and decide whether you are going to change it or leave it as it is.
An editor, will go through your text and make all the changes she sees necessary. You do not
have to do it yourself. Whole paragraphs may be revised and improved. There is a danger that you
won't like those changes if you are very fond of your own writing. ~smile~
Of course, you can always change things back after you've paid for the edit. It's a question of
whether you trust the editor to know better than you.
If good clear writing is more important to you, then you may prefer to ask for editorial
service, and be willing to pay for it.
One way we can make it easier on you, is if you'll send us some sample pages of your writing; we'll
give you a free estimate of costs.
(In some instances - we might do a proof-read or edit the sample page, so you can see if this
looks helpful to you. However, to be careful we are not ver-deluged with requests for free samples,
and taken advantage of, this offer will be carefully monitored. It is for sincere clients only).
Here's a form for you to describe your needs for proof-reading or editing:
I'm Sorry! I've got to close this form for a while. I am too busy to take on jobs until I can line up some
virtual assistants to help me with my work load. Perhaps in the future.
Thank you for being honest, and willing to discuss your special eBook with us!
Please note, however, that we reserve the right to refuse to do work on books of vulgar, immoral,
or of no redeeming value. If your project is accepted you will be notified of payment options. Do
not worry about your material being stolen. As a writer/publisher myself, I have very high standards
in that regard. Read my Privacy Policy
for details.
